Green Remodeling
Remodeling your home is an exciting time. The fun and anticipation of living in your newly remodeled home is great, but
wouldn't it be even greater if you knew that your newly remodeled home was environmentally friendly because you had done some green
remodeling?
With no national standards as to what a green home is exactly, it might seem a bit daunting and confusing to be doing green
remodeling, but there are groups out there working on proposed standards and guidelines. You can still get a lot of guidance on green remodeling
even in the absence of national standards so don't shy away from green remodeling just because of a little confusion.
Green remodeling, at this point is what you make it and any environmentally friendly changes you make to your home will be an
improvement. so much of green remodeling is common sense. If you just do the projects that need to be done and try to make them as eco-friendly
as possible, you will be doing green remodeling.
The obvious things to do, like making your home more energy efficient in every way you can and making use of energy from
renewable resources a priority are at the heart of green remodeling.
There are so many things you can do to improve the energy efficiency of your home and most of them don't cost a lot and don't
require a major construction project to accomplish. But if you are doing some major remodeling, why not make it green remodeling? One green
remodeling project that can really pay dividends is window replacement.
Replacing your old drafty windows with new state of the art, energy efficient windows can save you money on heating and air
conditioning and thereby, cut the CO2 emissions of your home.
Another big green remodeling project would be installing some sort of renewable energy system or combination of systems. Solar
and wind might be a good option and you may even be able to generate enough electricity of your own to have extra to sell to your local power
company.
This is a green remodeling project that really pays big dividends for both you and the environment. If your budget or project
doesn't allow a green remodeling of this scope, at least as part of your green remodeling project, you should consider a passive solar water
heating system.
Whatever green remodeling project you choose, remember that what you are doing is important not just for you and your home,
but for all future generations, as green remodeling can help save the environment.
