Empty Nest Remodeling

There comes a time in the life of almost every family when your home becomes and empty nest. This is not a bad thing, necessarily, but it does cause many parents to experience the blues and empty nest syndrome. To alleviate some of the triggers to sadness and depression during this time of the empty nest, why not do some remodeling to give yourself and your home a little boost?

Empty nest remodeling is not a new concept by any means. And what empty nest remodeling means to one person is not always identical to the ideas of another. It could mean packing up and storing all the articles around the house that belong to your child or children who have recently left the home. It may mean turning the recreation room where the kids spent much of their free time into a home office or a hobby center for some new interest of your own. Empty nest remodeling can be small scale or large.

You could incorporate one of the kids' bedrooms adjacent to your own and create a luxurious master bedroom suite. This type of empty nest remodeling will not only give you a more spacious personal space, but could also really add value to your home should you ever decide to sell. And that is another good reason for empty nest remodeling. Maybe it is time to downsize a bit.

Why do you need a five bedroom, three and a half bath house when all the kids are grown and gone? Wouldn't three bedrooms be enough? or even two? Empty nest remodeling could be for the sole reason of preparing your house for sale so that you can move to a smaller abode and have less housekeeping responsibilities.

Empty nest remodeling can be really fun and take your mind of missing your kids. Just because you change the usage of a bedroom into something else for the time being doesn't mean that the next home owner can't use it as a bedroom later as long as you don't make remodeling mistakes like removing closets or windows to create a home theater out of a bedroom. This might backfire and reduce the value of your home.

But you could include a basement home theater in your empty nest remodeling plans and enjoy it yourself and get your investment money back when and if you sell as long as you haven't gotten carried away in the costs of that particular empty nest remodeling projects.

Empty nest remodeling serves many purposes and certainly will give you something to do after the demands of parenting have lessoned as grown children move away.
